Hello Perry Fox Family,
My name is Joan Martinez, and I am truly excited to begin this new adventure, serving as your School Counselor!
As the child of a retired US Navy service member, I grew up in the Liberty Military Housing - Bayview Hills complex. I recognize and appreciate the unique challenges that military families face due to frequent relocations and deployments. I attended 5 elementary schools because of duty relocations between Virginia and California. My parents and their 5 children eventually settled into San Diego after 22 years of military service. With that in mind, my commitment to Perry Elementary students' well-being is unwavering.
In order to work with kids, I went through a lot of schooling! I earned an Associate's degree from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA, a Bachelor's degree at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and a Master's of Science degree in Educational Counseling from National University, along with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. I love learning! I am going on my 19th year now as a School Counselor, and love to learn and grow with you all every day!
My main objective as your School Counselor is to work closely with staff and community partners to provide comprehensive guidance and support to all our students, helping them navigate the various social, emotional, and academic aspects of their lives. By fostering a safe and inclusive environment, we aim to empower each student to realize their full potential and achieve their dreams.
I am confident that together, we will achieve many great things at Perry. Let us create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach for the stars.
