Principal's Sunday Message

Dear Perry Families,

We appreciate all of our families taking time to talk to your child daily about the importance of kindness and respect to others.  We will be introducing Second Step curriculum within the next week. Second Step programs are research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested to promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children from Early Learning through grade 8.  As a staff, we will be focusing on social-emotional skills and strategies that will help build stronger communities and support inclusive, equitable learning.   We appreciate your support and we will be sending home more information about this.

  1. Please make sure that your child has a facemask to wear at all times. Please remind your child that it must fit over the nose. Parents, please wear a facemask when dropping off and picking up your child this keeps us all safe. Thank you for your consideration of the entire Perry community.
  2. Please make sure that your child has a reusable water bottle.  This is very important with the hot weather because our students need to stay hydrated.
  3. Please make sure that your child is wearing closed-toed shoes to school.  Students need to be able to participate in physical education and appropriate shoes are needed at all times. Please understand that although Crocs are closed-toed shoes, they are not appropriate for school and physical education.
  4. Back to School Night has been changed to Thursday, October 7, 2021.  We are in the process of reorganizing some classes that are too full and some classes that need more students.  If we need to move your child, please understand that we do our best to balance classes for the entire year and this is something we have to do.  Thank you for your support, in addition, understanding as we move forward with the class reorganization.
  5. If you have questions about health please email our nurse at be kind to our nurse and health techs when they call about your child. We are all learning together about new health guidelines related to Covid. For more information on Covid procedures and testing please go to the district website at:

Please remember that we are all here for our students.  We are all doing our best to make Perry Elementary a special place for your child to attend.  We appreciate your support, kindness, and understanding as we all work together to make Perry a place filled with kindness and respect for the entire community.

All the best,

Ms. Morales-Principal

We're Back in Class -Help Us Keep the Year Going Strong!

The first week of the new academic year was filled with new opportunities, new routines, and new faces as thousands of students returned to school full-time for the first time since the pandemic began. For many, including San Diego's youngest learners, this was their first time on a school campus.

As we celebrate a successful first week of school, our number one priority continues to be keeping students, staff, and families safe, healthy, and able to attend class each day. To ensure this, all families are being asked to complete and return the COVID
-19 Testing Acknowledgement Form by Friday, September 10.

It is encouraged to opt-in for this free, onsite testing for students, but it is important to submit the form even if you choose to opt-out of testing.

“The goal is to have as many students learning in person at school, as safely as possible,” said Howard Taras, a UC San Diego pediatrician, and San Diego Unified consulting physician.

The form can be completed online or on paper and turned into your school's front office. To access the form, or for instructions on how to complete your form online or on paper, see "Testing Information for Students on our
COVID Testing information page.
